Well it took a fair old while, but I've finally finished the latest re-write of Fury of the sword and returned it to my editor/publisher for their inspection. The points they raised were all looked into and I ended up making about half the changes they suggested, all of which made the story stronger. I also wrote a whole new chapter to round off Eryn's part in the novel as that was kind of left dangling, something I ws aware of and something my editor immediately picked up on. Again really pleased that i did that because that's another rough edge smoothed over. However, the most important thing my editor picked up was that I had somehow managed to mix up two of my minor characters, which had it not been picked up, would have been very embarrassing. So a big shout out of thanks to my fabulous editor.
Hopefully that will be the last re-write and as I say it's now with my publisher for formatting and cover design. I took the liberty of writing the blurb when I submitted the latest version of the book, so hopefully that will be accepted to.
Now it's just a case of waiting to hear that everything is okay before receiving the final drafts for one final look through. Really looking forward to seeing what they come up with cover wise this time.
In the meantime I've decided to get down to some short story writing. I've found 2 ghost story competitions I want to enter, one of which I won last year. There is also the small matter of the Spinetinglers Xmas ghost story competition which has been a happy hunting ground for me over the last 4 years, having won it twice (once with a co-writer) and have come 4th once as well. Really looking forward to having another crack st this again this year with my co-writer. First though I've got to try and come up with a half decent idea the two of us can kick around.
Therein lies the problem though. Got up this morning with the intention of writing a short ghost story for one of the 2 competitions I mentioned, but was sadly lacking inspiration. After about half an hour of staring at a blank piece of paper I finally came up with a title. An hour later no words had been added and my frustration levels were growing, so I underlined the title. Nothing further was added before lunch.
I'm glad to say that things improved somewhat after lunch and a first draft of sorts was eventually jotted down. I've just re-read it before working on this post and there's something there for me to work with for sure. It's a good job though that the deadline isn't for a couple of weeks otherwise I'd be stuffed. I hope this procrastination/writers' block or whatever you want to call it, is just down to lack of match fitness, having hardly done any short story writing this year, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to leave this one for a couple of days and then have a go at editing it over the weekend provided I don't feel too garbage after undergoing yet another procedure in hospital on Saturday.
Haven't had the time to read anything for absolutely weeks now which is depressing but I am watching TV. Breaking Bad what can I say - won loads of awards earlier in the week I hear and deservedly so. If you've never watched it you don't know what you're missing. What I can't handle though is the thought that next Monday is the last episode ever. There will be a national day of mourning on Tuesday as a consequence. Still, I read somewhere they're doing a spin off show called "Better call Saul" so hopefully that will fill the void.
Right, time for a bite to eat and then to watch the mighty Leeds trounce the Toon at Newcastle. Right after I've fed the Unicorn and counted the flying pigs that is.
